Collin is 2!!

Oh goodness....the look of I-just-can't-believe-it on Collin's face in the direction of that big TWO on his cake says it all. Two years already?!
My nephew Collin's birthday was May 31st, right before I left for my trip.
There was a pool party.
There were toys.

There were lots of hugs and smiles for Grandma.

And there was lots of fun had with good friends!

KADY! Senior 2010

Greetings from Poland!
It isn't often that I blog a senior shoot from across the world so you my friend, are a lucky girl ;)
This is the gorgeous Kady. Kady brought the most colorful wardrobe and rockin' "serious face" to our shoot.
We had fun with this turquoise wall outside of her church's Destiny Center. Kady's mom contacted me after seeing the Gillispie family photos and talking to Alicia about my photography at church. Love that!
We squeezed out the last bit of light from the golden hour for some fun photos in the grass with a little bit of flare.
How stunning does she look in this vintage dress!?!
And yet another great "junk yard" find. I swear they just WANT me to find them! Love when I can find an angle I haven't tried before!
AND...talk about great finds! This was the session of many chairs! Not your typical alley find here..this was beyond exciting!

Kady loved spending the evening with you and your mom! Have a great senior year :)

Nathan + Shannon

Sometimes it just so happens that two people I know and love individually date and make me love them even more! I have known Nathan most of my life and Shannon for a little over a year...and now they are dating! Look how cute they walk down a road together! It's ridiculous :)

These photos were taken at Nathan's grandparents old place. Nathan actually grew up at the bottom of the hill behind them...
...and his name (and all the siblings and cousins too!) is written on this barn door with spray paint...

I have wanted to photograph FISHING for sooo long! When I spoke with Shannon about our session I knew they would be the perfect couple for it.
We went just down the road to my family's friend (Nathan's too!) Rodger's pond to fish the night away.

And what could be a better way to end this session than a BIG OL' FISH! haha :)

They have done it again! They have accomplished being absolutely adorable in their family photos once more......
Soon this trio will be FOUR!!! Miss Karli will be joining us in late June and I cannot wait to photograph her little baby hands, toes, rolls, etc. when I get back to the states in July.
(OH YEAH, p.s. I am going to Europe for a month and I leave on Monday! Ow-Ow!)

AND...this is my super cute "new" kid's chair. I haven't decided if I am going to repaint it yet. I like the aged look...but it would be so perfect in red or turquoise....

Breann SENIOR 09

I'm back! And with another exciting shoot to introduce. This is Breann :)
Breann is the little sister of Trent, one of my best friends. Trent and I were friends in high school and we now both go to college in Warrensburg. I remember being around Bre at Trent's Super Bowl parties over the years and tutoring her 8th grade art class. BUT NOW she is graduating! And asked me to take her senior photos. Yay!
It was freezing outside this day! This particular weekend was full of obstacles, weather obstacles! It rained (see puddles above), it snowed, and it was COLD! Despite the less than favorable conditions Bre rocked her pics....
Flowering trees were an added bonus.

We planned to get a few more when Bre comes to Warrensburg next so stay tuned. Thanks again Breann, I loved taking your Senior pictures :)

Football and Fun with Aimee and Jordan

Meet Aimee and her son Jordan! Aimee found me through Kelli + Jake (below) because she and Kelli work together. Aimee told me in one of her first emails, "A little background on Jordan and I…..we love sports." So what better way to show their relationship than to play a little football. :)

We met in Ashland, and here is a bright blue wall of the Ashland Optimist...

Jordan was so tough! On our way to the second location his thumb got shut in the car door...oh no! But Jordan was a trooper and we still got great images in the fall leaves.

Mi Familia

Ok, I might be biased but isn't this the cutest family you have ever seen!?! They're mine :) My brother Cliff, his wife Suzanne, and my sweet nephew Collin met me one day right before Halloween for some pumpkin pickin' and photo takin'.

Collin's smiles and giggles could turn any bad day around. Just look at this: You're smiling now aren't you? .....Don't say I didn't warn you..... Collin smiles are contagious.

Have I mentioned that I LOVE fall......these vivid colors make my day, and my night, week....month even!
By now you are wondering where we found such a cute location. We met at the semi-halfway point between Warrensburg and Moberly, Peach Tree Farm. Peach Tree, well you guessed it, they grow peaches! In the fall, however, they are a pick-your-own-pumpkins-and-gourds patch. They have hayrides, a straw maze, barnyard animals, adorable barns, and super nice people. Oh and puppies!

And sunflowers! The owner was so nice to even let us dance in the sunflower patch, ok I wasn't dancing, but Cliff and Suz were very cute at it.

How blessed I am to have such a great family, not to mention amazing role models. Love you guys!

"My Desk"

This semester I am taking a class called Intro to Studio Techniques. That being said, anyone who has seen my work would point out I don't do studio work. It's not my thing, ok? But this assignment, I liked.
The first part of the semester consisted of weekly assignments photographing "metal," "texture," " a box," "flowers," etc. using hot lights. We have recently moved on to flash assignments but I wanted to share one of my favorites from the first half of the class. This assignment was to photograph a set of our "desk."
Although my REAL desk at home is covered with my laptop, camera, hard drives, and a printer...I didn't want to look like a total gearhead! In this photo I featured my drawing hobby in a charcoal sketch. The leaves represent my love for fall and COLOR. My MacBook Pro...because-duh-I love Macs! (Thank you Steve Jobs, but that's a whole 'nother post)
And the pear.
I love pears. Ask my roommates. I'm borderline obsessive about pears. Not just about eating them, I like to photograph them, draw them, decorate with them, and I think pear is my favorite color. Don't ask. It is a color in my book.
I was very pleased with this shot. Not my typical comfort zone but I like it none-the-less. Something about it seems very...calming. It's the pear. It has to be the pear.

Emily+Damon and Kiddos

CUTE FAMILY!! Emily contacted me about pictures after she had seen the Gillispie trio's (hmm note to self to blog those equally cute Gillispies..) pictures and we set up a time for these fun family/engagement pictures. Emily and Damon are getting married in May...they are sooo cute together. During the shoot they had great instincts, I would start to pose them and realize they were already perfect the way they were!

This is Addison, she is 10 months in these photos. Lovin' that bow!
Cayden, 2, loves his trucks and tractors. While going through the photos after the shoot I found myself laughing at one of him driving his john deere over his sister's head. :)
We had beautiful light in the woods next to Emily's parent's house. Also a cool truck, but you will have to click here to see those....

What happy kids! After the shoot I got the sweetest e-mail from Emily:

"I just wanted to let tell you thanks again for coming to my parents to take our pictures. You are soooooo talented and I can't wait to see the results. I hope the kids weren't to fussy for you......Thank you so much. You are awesome and I am going to be sending as much business as I can to you!!"

Fussy kids?! They were great..seriously. Thank YOU so much. I loved every minute of it.

Riley

This is Miss Riley! I went to high school with Riley's parents and was excited to get to photograph her for her 2nd birthday, which is coming up very soon!
We spent our session exploring Riley's grandparent's farm in Cairo, MO. There were so many rustic buildings and things to play and climb on for pictures. Riley seemed to be distracted a great deal of the time by collecting rocks..what a tomboy ;)
I laughed so hard watching Riley "dance," as seen in the first photo. She was also very entertaining on this little horse:

As promised, here is Shea². My second session with Shea had 3 main objectives: golf photos, a yearbook photo, and a mini session with Shea's brother Ryan. However, we didn't neglect having fun in the process:

I love, love, lovvveeee the light coming through in the above photo. The shadows from the golf balls and the light coming across Shea's face (because of Chad rockin' the reflector behind the scenes) makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

A little texture..fun eh? I love the assortment of colors in the background :) yay! fall!

Kelli and Jake tied the knot this past weekend. I wasn't able to go to their wedding but after spending an afternoon with them a few weeks ago, I know it had to be a fun-filled event. These two had me laughing the whole time!

Backyard Fun

Whoa! How cute are they!? I enjoyed photographing the Rickett's kids and soaking up the last bit of summer weather just playing in the backyard. We did some swingin':

It's hard to believe I used to babysit little baby Emma...who is now Big Sis Emma! Several years ago, when she was an infant, I took a photo of her feet and entered it into my 4-H contest. Around that time was when I was really starting to love photography and thinking about it as more than just a hobby. So thanks, Emma, for having such cute baby feet...AND thanks, Seth and Janelle for having the cutest blond haired, blue eyed trio around :)
Below is the also completely adorable home of the kiddo's grandparents where we spent the morning playing in the yard....

September 18th, 2007:
NEW MESSAGE from Shea Colley. Who is Shea you ask? I didn't know either but I was about to love this girl!
Shea says:
"you do really good work, and i am trying to find someone "different" for taking my Sr. pics because everyone goes to the same places it seems like.."
Fair enough.
And what's even better is, I was sooo excited to get some senior business because, well I just LOVE senior pictures.
What I didn't know then was that I would have to wait one whole YEAR to photograph Shea. Wow, was I honored to be asked so far in advance! But forget about honored, I was NERVOUS! (haha hope it didn't show Shea)

So here we are 1 year, 3 days, and some hours later:
This gorgeous girl's photographs were a family event too...we had her parents along for both sessions and her brother joined us for a portion of our second session (images still to come). I might have even put them to work..Chad on reflectors and lights and Beth on official "hair duty." It was windy ;)

Talk about cool locations too! [Insert patting self on back] I searched far and wide to find these fun spots, but this girl doesn't photograph and tell.

The "Golden Hour" is a photographer's ideal light. Things look golden (hence the name) and beautiful in the hour of sunset, and also of sunrise.
These photos show what I found during my golden hour stroll through my parent's yard! (EDIT: My mother wanted it noted that this is the pasture behind the yard, her grass is not that tall....haha!)

Funesta is Grant Elementary School's (Columbia, MO) year-end playground party! Amy Enderle (SilverBox Photographer) invited me to join she and her family in the FUNesta activities and to photograph everyone having a good time. I had a blast just seeing the kids interactions and of course, funky hair styles.

So I have been working on this assignment ALLLL night. The assignment (called "Folio") was to create a layout of at least 8 photos from a shoot.
I'm just so excited about it!
Not only does she look GORGEOUS, Jessie was so generous to be my model and put up with all of my crazy instructions. I knew it was going to be a good day after the very first shot. Ok, enough of my gloating, here is the layout I worked up...

Collin, my nephew, has started to SMILE! He is absolutely adorable. I sure wish I got to see him more. Not only does he have new smiles, he also has new "shoes." His new brace is covered with firetrucks and Dalmatians!
He is 4 months in these photos. We spent most of a lazy Sunday catching up on lost time. Collin's mom and dad got to hang out too...it was a family event!

I tell you, these Johnsons are something else! Faith, along with her 7 (YES 7!) siblings and amazing parents are some of the greatest people I have ever had the priviledge of knowing. I photographed older sister, Timi, a couple of years ago. AND now Faith! Faith has the amazing combination of beauty AND brains. One day she will probably win a Nobel Prize, or becomes the first woman President, maybe Miss America?
Faith, being the creative person that she is, was the perfect person for me to photograph without worrying about taking only "traditional" shots.
Now I told you she was great, right!?!
